A Bit of Doodle Background
These amazingly smart and playful furry companions are great family dogs that have inherited the best traits from both their parents. Sheepadoodles, Bernedoodles, amd Goldendoodles have a remarkable ability to sense human emotions, which makes them excellent pets and even support/service animals.
There is a probability that the Doodle dog breed(s) have existed naturally, however since the 1960s. The initial purpose of developing this mixed breed was for the use as a military dog for the US army.
In the 1980s, when people observed that these breeds did amazing with allergy sufferers, they became famous. Breeders also thought of developing a breed that will have less tendency to shed hair.
Moreover, breeders were also looking for a dog group that would be friendly around other humans and provides a loyal companion. So, they starting crossing a variety of popular breeds such as the Golden Retriever, the Old English Sheepdog, and the Bernese Mountain Dog with Poodles, and as a result, Doodles were developed.
An Old English Sheepdog was a breed developed in England from an early herding dog breed. Their playfulness, bubbliness, and intelligence found their way in a Sheepadoodle’s genes. On the other hand, Poodle is a formal breed that has three basic types; standard, miniature, and toy. This dog breed’s origin is still somewhat vague, but history does reveal they were originally bred as hunting dogs, mainly for the higher class, as waterfowl retrievers.
Sheepadoodles as well as Bernedoodles are dog breeds that have a solid build that is usually medium-sized, but also can be bred to be mini size which usually ranges between 20-50 lbs. They usually are sturdy looking dogs with a broad head that is domed shaped and long ears hanging down till their shoulders.
As they are a mixed breed, their size can have a lot of disparity . However, a "standard": Bernedoodle, Sheepadoodle, or Goldendoodle pup can be expected to grow anywhere between 40 to 80 pounds. In contrast, a mini or moyen-sized Doodle weighs around 25 to 55 pounds. Their height can range from 16 to 22 inches, depending on the type.
These strong yet attractive looking dogs can instantly catch people’s eye without making an effort.
The beautiful black, white, brown, red and even merle hair and feathered shaped eyes of a Doodle pooch makes their appearance and faces bright and beautiful.
